Two pieces from a recent series based on McGinness’ own fingerprints. Each work in the series consists of one or more fingerprint images screenprinted onto vintage Pantone presentation paper. The prints of different fingers are layered together in combinations that suggest hand gestures, then further combined with specific shades from the Pantone spectrum. The result is a kind of visual shorthand, a few bits visual information to evoke a particular mood, or state of mind… These two are a study in contrast. Double thumbs-up on a guava-hued background, above, has the ultra laid-back vibe of a beachcomber on permanent vacation, versus the riot grrl rage, below, of a double middle-finger against a background of shocking pink.
